Puppies

I breed Sable or Black and Gold German Shepherd Puppies and I sometimes have  long coats available as well as standard coats.

German Shepherds are NOT the easiest breed and will require a great deal of time, patience and commitment from their owner. They are highly intelligent, so can be demanding, reactive, noisy and get bored very easily. If you have not owned a German Shepherd before, please take a look at my
German Shepherd Information (about the GSD)

Bookings for puppies are often taken in advance and names may be added to a provisional waiting list. This booking will be subject to my meeting and approving of potential owners, (including all family members), normally before the puppies are born, so that I can be sure that my puppies will be going to suitable homes.

I do not generally export my puppies, except under exceptional circumstances.
If you are interested in owning one of my puppies please

All puppies are reared indoors and exposed to different sights, sounds and experiences, including supervised romps in the garden, mixing with my other dogs and a ride in the car.

Great emphasis is put on socialising each litter, therefore all puppies are accustomed to the general hustle and bustle of everyday life, including children of various ages and all my other dogs. Temperament is my first consideration when breeding, along with sound health and hips, quality and good looks.

Puppies are allowed to leave home at 8 weeks of age. Mum is allowed free access to her 'babies' until they go to their new homes, even though they are fully weaned by 6 weeks. The puppies learn a lot from their mum in the later weeks, so I feel it is important that she can be with them if she wishes.

All puppies are Kennel Club Registered, Microchipped, Wormed, Insured and Vet Checked.
In addition, each puppy leaves 'home' with Puppy Food Packs from Natural Instinct  and Royal Canin, a piece of vet bed, a toy, collar, training treats and a detailed booklet with all the relevant information on general care, diet and training; a five generation pedigree which includes details of all hip, elbow scores and relevant health checks, family photos, copies of parents Hip/Elbow/Haemophilia/DM certificates and a sales contract.

Puppies will not receive any vaccinations before being placed in their new homes, as vaccination should not be viewed as an innocuous precedure. I am a firm believer in allowing the pups to develop their own immune systems sufficiently before receiving vaccinations, as their immature little bodies are already under the stress of moving home. This is a view shared by many vets. In addition, immunity gained from their mother (MDA) needs to wane before immunisation can take effect, otherwise the MDA renders the vaccination ineffective, possibly leaving the pup unprotected. Therefore, puppies vaccinated at an older age acquire better and longer lasting protection.
Pups which I keep receive one vaccination only between 12 and 16 weeks. My adults do not receive any booster vaccinations and haven't done since 2004. Since changing to this protocol, the longevity of my dogs has increased by almost 3 years!
Therefore, I recommend titre testing in adult dogs to ascertain circulating antibodies, rather than subjecting dogs to uneccessary and possibly harmful booster vaccinations. If a dog is already immune, a booster vaccination will not make it more immune.
I prefer my puppies to be reared as 'naturally' as possible and pups will be reared on a predominantly raw diet. Mum is wormed with Panacur from 6 weeks in whelp and pups are wormed with Panacur at 2, 5 and 8 weeks.
I do not believe in overdoing worming once the pup is older than 6 months and samples can be sent to 'Wormcount.com' to ascertain if the puppy/dog actually requires worming.
I never routinely use chemicals (either topical or systemic) for fleas and ticks. These chemicals can cause great harm, not only to the dog, but to the environment, so it is far better to check your puppy or dog regularly, before treating for unwanted critters blindly. In October 2021 the BVA called for a risk-based approach to parasiticide use for cats and dogs, due to increasing concerns regarding these products.
If it aint broke, don't fix it!

All puppies registration certificates carry the following endorsements:

a) Progeny not to be registered. This may be lifted on receipt of satisfactory hip and elbow scores and any other requested health tests. The dog or bitch must also have a good temperament, be a good example of the breed and be free from any health issues or hereditary defects. I will also need to be satisfied that the owner has the knowledge and facilities to rear a litter and provide after sales help.
b) Export pedigree not allowed. This will be lifted in the case of the owner moving abroad.
It is a requirement of the contract that if you are unable to keep your puppy, he or she must be returned to me if requested and cannot be sold or given to anyone else without contacting me. This applies throughout the dogs' life and it is to ensure that none of my puppies or dogs end up in the wrong homes. Potential owners must note that they will be in breach of contract should they pass on any dog purchased from me to any other party, without written permission from myself.
It is also a condition of the contract, that spaying or neutering of any dog I sell is not undertaken before maturity. ie: After at least one and preferably two seasons in the case of a bitch, or after 18 months in the case of a male, unless a medical reason requires it to be performed earlier.

All puppies (and owners!) are invited back between 4-6 months of age for the 'Puppy Party'.

I like to hear news and receive photographs of puppies and dogs of my breeding and keep in touch with their owners; many of whom have become my closest friends.
We also have a Facebook group 'Kesyra German Shepherds' which is a private group where my owners can share photographs and information.
I offer life-long help and advice, including re-homing any dog which I have bred should the unfortunate need arise.

It is always nice to receive good news from puppy owners, but it equally important to be informed of any problems or health issues affecting any dog which I have bred.

See What's New or Contact Me for details of current or planned litters.

All puppies pictured on this page are for information only, they are not for sale.

I can sometimes recommend other reputable breeders with puppies, sometimes by my own stud dogs. Please contact me for details.

See my Kesyra Photo Gallery for more pictures of 'Kesyra' Puppies and photos from the Puppy Parties.
